Sophie's Concern
Hi everyone! I tried to publish this with the welcome Sonata blog the other day but the whole thing disappeared so I decide to split up the stories. Here's our new story, featuring Sophie!
We were chatting up Sonata. We wanted to learn all about her. She seemed very friendly and we knew she'd fit into our family perfectly. Sophie stood a few steps apart and was very quiet. Then she turned to Mommy who was cleaning up the box and wrappings. She approached her hesitantly.
'Mommy?' said Sophie in a small voice. 'Can I talk to you?'
Mommy took her tiny hand.
'Of course, Sophie. What's on your mind?'
'Mommy, I'm not a pony girl.' said Sophie. Mommy looked concerned.
'Does that bother you?' asked Mommy.
'I'm not special, and I don't belong,' said Sophie. Mommy put her on her lap.
'Well first, Miss, you certainly do belong. You are a wonderful therapy doll and a great sister. And second, I never want to hear you say you aren't special.'
A pretend tear slid down Sophie's cheek.
'Sophie,' Mommy said, 'everyone is special. Everyone has qualities that make them special.'
Sophie grabbed a handful of her hair.
'But, Mommy, my hair isn't pony hair. It's just brown.'
'Honey, the color of your hair does not mean that you are special or not special. It's just hair. I can get you pony hair but I don't think that will make you feel any better.'
'Why not?' asked Sophie.
'Because it's what's inside that makes you special. Some people, or dolls, have different color hair, or eyes. But it's what is in their hearts, the type of person they are, that makes them special.' As Mommy explained, Sophie listened intently. She started to understand.
'Now, Sophie,' Mommy said, 'based on what I've told you, can you tell me some things that make you special?'
'Yes!' Sophie chirped happily, 'I love animals, I'm a nice doll, I'm a great therapy doll and I'm a good sister!'
'That's great! Now we can talk about a pony girl wig, there's still time, if you want to.'
'I'm ok, our original plan is great. I love you, Mommy.'
'I love you too, sweetheart,' said Mommy hugging her.
See ya next time! - Aria ❤️
